Search Patterns

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern should not be split for multi-vessels

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern can be split for a multi-vessel search

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as a distance (nm)
oTRACK SPACING - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern can be split for a multi-vessel search
•Expanding Parallel Line Search Pattern

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position and this must come from a previously calculated Datum so that we know where the LKP is
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oARC ANGLE (°)
oTRACK SPACING - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern can be split for a multi-vessel search

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDISTANCE FROM DATUM (nm)
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern will always be used by one vessel only

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as a distance (nm)
oTRACK SPACING - given as a distance (nm)
The shape of this pattern changes depending upon the relative lengths of the LEG LENGTH and the TRACK SPACING -
▪If the LEG LENGTH is longer than the TRACK SPACING, the pattern will progress quickly along the drift path. This will be used for a faster moving casualty
▪If the LEG LENGTH is shorter than the TRACK SPACING, the pattern will widen in relation to the drift path. This would be used for a slower moving casualty that is likely to diverge significantly
This pattern is ideal for a multi-vessel search

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oLEG LENGTH - given as distance (nm)
oTRACK SPACING - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern can be split for a multi-vessel search
•Expanding ZigZag

This pattern requires a -
oDATUM position, and this must come from a previously calculated Datum so that we know where the LKP is
oDRIFT BEARING (°T)
oVessel SEARCH SPEED (kts) which is used only to estimate the length of time the legs of the pattern will take
oARC ANGLE (°)
oTRACK SPACING - given as a distance (nm)
This pattern can be split for a multi-vessel search
