Search Planning - which areas have been searched

One part of search planning and coordination is to monitor the areas that have been searched.

To do this, SearchWell offers the ability to convert points that are stored in a CSV (Comma Separated File) which can be output by a AIS site like Marine Traffic to a KML (Keyhole Markup Language) read by Google Earth Pro and other mapping apps to show the track that rescue vessels have followed.

Marine Traffic is the main AIS tool we use for tracking vessels, and so this user manual will describe how to export the information from this AIS site.

First of all, one needs to set the default settings so that Marine Traffic displays the local time (see Marine Traffic - settings), but this only has to be done once.

Once the settings are correct you can download a vessels track and save it to your computer (see Marine Traffic - export).

Once the file has been saved on your computer, you can create the KML file in SearchWell (see Create KML file).
